Rich Hall’s Inventing The Indian

This is a great documentary discussing the pervasive stereotypes surrounding Native Americans. I thought this would be interesting especially considering the recent debates resulting from the recent publication of Jared Diamond’s highly controversial book ‘The World Until Yesterday’ and Napoleon Chagnon’s ‘Noble Savages: My Life Among Two Dangerous Tribes – the Yanomamö and the Anthropologists’. Both of these works have been heavily criticized for portraying indigenous people as savages that are in a constant state of warfare. Unfortunately, such images are too often used within the media and politics to justify continuing abuses of indigenous rights.
